IN DEFENSE DARLUNG'S GRAMMATICAL BOO-BOO
Today, errors walk faster than rights. People tend to
realize your mistakes than your rights. If you are privileged to visits most of
the online news hubs, you should be privileged to realize that one of the vibrant
ministers of Nigeria has committed grammatical iniquity. Many people could not have
realized the boo-boo if it was not realized by correct grammarians, as
they call themselves.
I wonder how many errors were captured from the thousands of
commentators out there. One of the commenters said: waw I can belief it. what a
shame. Even the primary pupil cannot do these. When I read the aforesaid
comment, I was forced to conclude that the commenter should be a pre primary or
nursery pupil. This is because his grammar is worse than that of Dalong, but he
concluded that even a primary students should not be caught with a single-word-mistake.
WILLIAM BIGELOW writes, in NEW
YORK TIMES 16 Aug 2012, ‘…the “vibrant” Obama commits grammatical blunders…’
The list provided bellow on grammatical
errors committed by the almighty Obama could make you ask for Darlong’s
forgiveness.
Read the following errors by
Obama, whom the Americans believe is better than his predecessor, W.Bush.
1. “Well, first of all, I do
continue to believe that the greatest threat to United States security are the
terrorist networks like al Qaeda …”
-greatest threat…are? (My
comment)
2. “Obviously, our efforts to
continue to go after extremist organizations that would do harm to the homeland
is uppermost on our minds.”
-organizations…is? (My
comment)
3. “Good morning, Marines …
Diplomacy and assistance is also required to help the millions of displaced
Iraqis.”
-diplomacy and assistance is?
(My comment)
4. “Our families, our businesses,
and our long-term fiscal health demands that we act and act now.”
-Our families, our
businesses…demands? (My comment)
5. “Each of these institutions are full of
honorable men and women doing important work that helps our
country prosper.”
-each of these institutions
are? (My comment)
Just to mention but few.
My brother, if you are able to realize the mistakes here, you should
know that even the whites or the Americans do make mistakes.
Now come to the Darlong’s . The error that Darlong was accused of is the
use of spended instead of spent. Let us look at the error first. Has the sport
minister really said SPENDED OR EXPENDED? I think is possible that he was
saying expended. You know why? Everybody does such a
mispronunciations. A group of American
literati said, ”what does Trump mean when he says bigly?” it was later realized that whenever he wants
to say ‘BIG LEAGUE,’ he says bigly. If a white American president (-elect) can say
bigly
instead of big league, why not a Nigerian minister says spended
instead of expended.
You may ask me why the money expended were properly expended?
Right? The word expended simply means to spend some money. I think this is
logical.
I claim no infallibility in my
works, so corrections and or suggestions are always welcomed

IN DEFENSE OF DALUNG'S GRAMMATICAL BOO-BOO
ReplyDeleteInteresting, but the fact that mistakes abound with regards to a first or second language does not mean that we should revel in them. You may want to consider some errors of your own.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
